Anuka Ramischwili-Schäfer

filmmaker, sound artist, programmer

Anuka Ramischwili-Schäfer is a Georgian-German filmmaker, working in sound, film and multimedia. Their work questions themes of displacement, translation, gossip, dysphoria, and representations of the past. They attempt to work against ethnocentrism, in particular in terms of West Asia and the Caucasus, through experimental forms of film and essay writing. They have most recently screened at Frieze's No. 9 Cork Street, Camden Art Centre, London Short Film Festival, E A Shared Space (Tbilisi), Institute for Contemporary Art London, One Minutes, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen. They are the founder of F(r)ictions, a screening programme for short experimental film.

Anuka is currently working between London and Tbilisi. They are a qualified librarian with an MSc in Library and Information Science (University of Borås) and a second Masters in Sound Art (University of the Arts London). Their library and archives work overlaps with their artistic practice, enabling a more thorough understanding of knowledge organisation and representation. They are currently working on an archival film in Tbilisi.

They were shortlisted for the MEAD fellowship in Summer 2018 for their film screening series F(r)ictions. The series creates space for experimental video work as well as encourages DIY filmmaking.
